For the 2018 season, our Junior team entered into the Division 3 league and Junior B championship. The league system began in March with 2 groups containing 7 teams. Our Juniors were in the group with Killea, Knock and Moycarkey Borris. Our boys wasted no time in finding their feet in a new division and hit the ground running with a big victory over Knock, 4-20 to 1-5. This was followed up with a 5 point win over Killea in what was a fiery contest in Killea. Our lads knew, a win or a draw over Moycarkey in their last match would guarantee passage into the final. A powerful second half display saw Drom & Inch run out 3-22 to 1-14 winners on the night and made it 3 wins from 3.
The Juniors faced Moyne/Templetouhy in the final on the 13th of May in Templemore. Despite the blistering start from Drom & Inch with an early goal from Michael Everard along with points from Jerome Ryan, Aidan O’Meara & Everard, Moyne kept battling and forced the game into extra time despite Drom playing with 14 men following the dismissal of Aaron Ryan with 15 minutes remaining. Drom & Inch proved to be too strong and finally shook off the challenge of Moyne in the closing stages and won the final 1-18 to 0-19. A delighted Thomas Ryan collected the cup on behalf of the players. Well done to management of Trevor Hassett, Eamonn Long, Seamus Cahill & Andy Bourke.
The juniors fine form continued into the championship, this time without the aid of some of the intermediate hurlers. Big wins in their opening 2 games over Clonakenny and Thurles Gael along with a hard fought draw with Gortnahoe, sees Drom & Inch sit joint top of their group with one more group game to go against JK Brackens. Best of luck to all the players and management.
