The passing of Donal Younge of The Ragg brought great sadness to the GAA Community in Drom & Inch in 2017. Donal was one of the clubs strongest supporters since he took over The Ragg Bar & Lounge in 1998. As chief sponsor of Drom & Inch, Donal never failed to provide generous support to the club and he donated several sets of jerseys for the senior teams in addition to substantial financial help over the years.
Donal was an active committee member and at the time of his death was vice- chairman of the club. He contributed time and effort to the running of the clubs affairs and was always supportive of plans to enhance the clubs facilities.
Under his patronage, The Ragg Bar & Lounge became a focal point for members and supporters. It was the scene of many victory celebrations and post- match discussions and hosted the club lotto draw every fortnight. Donal, his family and their dedicated staff were always on hand to provide hospitality and catering. Donal's fortitude and resilience over the course of his lengthy illness was indicative of his strength of character. His presence behind the bar and at Drom & Inch matches will always be missed.
The huge turnout of players past and present and club officials in the guard of honour for his funeral was testament to high esteem in which the club held him. In his honour, the staff of The Ragg, Suir Haven and Drom & Inch GAA & Camogie Clubs joined together in an effort to raise much needed funds for the Suir Haven Cancer Support Centre in Thurles where Donal found comfort. A hurling tournament involving the four areas of the parish, Drom, The Ragg, Barnane and Pallas Hill was run over the Christmas break with teams involving hurling and camogie players. In what turned out to be a fantastic day of hurling and evening of entertainment, over €8,500 was raised for Suir Haven. Many thanks to all who contributed and to everyone in the organisation of the event.
