The Drom & Inch minor footballers won the clubs first mid minor B football title in 6 years thanks to a comprehensive 8 point win over neighbours Upperchurch last Wednesday in Holycross.
Drom raced into the lead in the early exchanges thanks to a goal from Jamie Ryan and points from Paudi Kinane (x2), Ben Stapleton and Jack Lillis put Drom 1-4 to 1 point up after 12 minutes. However 'Church established themselves and grabbed 4 points before the halfs end to leave the score 1-7 to 0-5.
The second half started brighly for Drom & Inch thanks to a fine score from Paudi Kinane. Again, Upperchurch showed great determination and skill and scored three unanswered points to make it a one score game 1-8 to 0-8 heading into the final third. John Campion added a second goal for Drom in between two points from Darragh Kennedy. This all but ended the match as a contest putting 9 points between them. The sides traded scores in the final 10 minutes of the match but Drom & Inch were deserving of their 8 point victory in Holycross. A delighted captain Rory O'Dwyer accepted the trophy on behalf of the players.
Huge credit to the management team of Matthew Buckley, Martin Everard, David Collins, Martin McGrath, Seamus Callanan and Matthew McGrath for the work they have put into this bunch. They have the difficult task of juggling both codes now over the next few weeks as the prepare for a county semi final in football and a mid final in the hurling against Gortnahoe. Best of luck going forward boys!!!
