Drom & Inch 4-19

Gortnahoe 0-09

Well done to our minors who have made it a double in Mid finals this year as they added the hurling title to the football championship they won a few weeks ago. In greasy conditions in Templemore, the skill level was very high with fast hurling being produced by both sides.

In a very competitive opening 15 minutes, with the sides level at 0-02 each, Drom & Inch shifted up the gears and overpwered Gortnahoe in most sections of the pitch, led by a powerful defensive display by all 6 backs in particular John Ryan and Fintan Purcell who dominated every ball that dropped down.

Up front, Ben Stapleton proved to be the thorn in the Gortnahoe defence throughout this contest. Opperating at full forward, Ben notched over a couple of points of his own but it was his ability to bring the other forwards into the game by assisting with several scores and providing a clinical handpass accross the 14 meter line to set up Tony Cahill for a goal. Jamie Ryan, Jack Lillis and John Campion raised the majority of white flags between them and other goals from Lorcan Campion and Jamie Ryan ensured that there was a mountain that Gortnahoe could not climb in the second half. 3-09 to 0-04 at HT.

The second half continued much the same as the first. Brian Moore started to find his groove from top of the right by adding two ponts of his own and winning several frees. A spectacular late goal from Paul Glasheen ensured that all starting forwards got on the score sheet. Gortnahoe pressed hard in the second half to claw themselves back into the game but were to be denied goals by Rory O'Dwyer who stood firm at full back all afternoon.

Management introduced substitutions who continued with the intensity of the players they replaced such as Donnacha Barry who stepped up to fire over a fine point. With fantastic performces right through out the team, in which several players put up their hand for the man of the match award, it was Tony Cahill who got the nod thanks to a fine display from wing forward including 3 long range scores in the second half as well as showing constant desire to win back possession for Drom. A delighted Lorcan Campion accepted the cup on behalf of the team.

Well done to the management team of Matthew Buckley, Martin Everard, Martin McGrath, David Collins, Matthew McGrath and Seamus Callanan for the commitment to this team. We wish them the best of luck in the county championship.
