Drom & Inch 1-15
Knockavilla 2-11
Drom & Inch have won the county minor B hurling championship after a Titanic tussle with Knockavila Kickhams today. In wet conditions in Cashel where the rain was constant throughout and after heavy rainfall overnight, conditions were not ideal but the standard of skill shown by both teams was exceptional.
Drom raced into a commanding lead in the early stages of the match going 1-5 to 0-1 up in the first 15 minutes. Full forward, Ben Stapleton set the tone early on when he got on the end of a cross field ball and clipped over a point from 25 meters and they never looked back from there. Further points from Jack Lillis, John Campion and Paudi Kinane put daylight between the sides. The real blow for Kickhams came on the 10 minute mark when Stapleton spectacularly doubled on a long clearance over his head left the goal keeper with no chance. Further scores from Jimmy Mullen, John Campion and a spectacular solo effort from John Ryan, looked to have put Drom in a commanding position coming up to half time but county minor goal keeper, Browne, fired a long range free into the square which made its way into the net. 1-11 to 1-6 in favour of Drom & Inch.
The second half was very much dominated by Kickhams , who outscored Drom 1-5 to 4 points. A long range effort from John Ryan, and further scores from Campion and Kinane (x2) was enough to see Drom & Inch over the line in the end but not without men in green showing great heart and determination in defence to hold out. A delighted Lorcan Campion accepted the Broderick Cup on behalf of the team. This was the first time Drom & Inch won the county minor B championship since 2011 and 5th overall (1984, 1995, 2003, 2011, 2018). Huge credit goes to the management team of Matthew Buckley, Martin Everard, Seamus Callanan, Martin McGrath, Matthew McGrath and David Collins for their efforts this year.
However, there is a short turn over as the minors must prepare themselves for the county minor B football final next weekend against the Kickhams again. Hopefully they can add the football title to the hurling.
