Drom-Inch 2-12 Newport 1-15
In the opening round of the Intermediate Championship Drom-Inch got off to a great start with
Steve Nolan, Kevin Butler , Paul Kennedy all getting a brace of points each from play, Michael Everard’s goal and 2 pointed free’s from Jamie Bergin left Drom with a comfortable 1-8 to 0-4 lead at half time. The turning point in the game came at 40 mins when James Ryan got a straight red reducing Drom down to 14, for the rest of the half Drom struggled to deal with an in-form Conor Mahony, as Newport started to close the gap. Robbie Long and Stevie Nolan got Drom’s only 2nd half points from play as Jamie Bergin hit 2 more free’s. With 5 minutes to go Newport took the lead for the first time. Deep into injury time Joe Lupton won a high ball from a Drom free and layed it off to Seamus Butler who drilled it home from 21 yards to snatch a draw.
